Recruits and places volunteers who commit to one year of service in an economically-challenged community. Benefits include monthly living allowance, medical insurance, deferment of student loans, and an educational award. Programs include AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), AmeriCorps*NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps), Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Accepts grant applications from private nonprofit and public organizations.
